Charity, cycling and cryptocurrency: $1 million donation

Jason Berlin and Jovel Velasquez, two cyclists enthusiastic about the crypto market, will ride across the United States to raise $1 million in cryptocurrencies. The project combines cryptocurrency, cycling and charity under one roof. The cyclists will donate the raised funds to the Houston Women’s Centre (HAWC). This is a non-profit organization that fights against domestic and sexual violence. Through counselling, shelter openings and assistance services, HAWC works to help survivors lead a safe and healthy life.

Crypto and charity – $1 million for HAWC

Berlin and Velasquez have set a target of raising $1 million in cryptocurrencies. This amount will be enough to fund the services provided by the shelter for 6 months. To ensure transparency, donors can verify that the addresses of the wallets displayed on the Tour de Crypto site are the same as those on the non-profit foundation’s official website. Thus, the entire amount collected through the campaign that started today will go directly to the HAWC. The cyclists have left New York and the race will end on the 9th of November in Huntington Beach, California. The two cyclists will surely stop in Houston to visit the HAWK headquarters.

According to Blake Rizzo, the Tour de Crypto representative, the project accepts donations in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Monero and other cryptocurrencies. He revealed that Berlin approached him regarding this project. The concept behind it comes from the Tour de France. More than raising donations, the organizers also want to raise awareness regarding the crypto market. Thus, they brought together 3 key concepts: cryptocurrency, cycling and charity.

The organizers have set out to make this an annual event. Each year the funds will be donated to different non-profit organizations. “The goal is to do this every year and not only have a charity that is the main focus, but also ask other communities and coins to get involved” Rizzo declared.
