Celebrities that love cryptocurrency

Cryptocurrency has entered mainstream in the last years mostly due to the upward trend of the crypto market. More than that, several celebrities from around the world, from actors to singers, promoted and invested in various coins. With millions of followers on multiple social media platforms, celebrities have presented Bitcoin and altcoins to the public.

Celebrities that love Bitcoin

American actor and rapper Donald Glover, better known as Childish Gambino, was one of the first celebrities to support the use of Bitcoin. As early as 2013, in an interview with Time magazine, Glover expressed interest in Bitcoin because of its benefits. “I know a lot of people are skeptical, but I feel like if everything’s going to live online, why not Bitcoins? It makes more sense. Being backed by gold seems very old and nostalgic to me”, he said.

That same year, former Spice Girl, Mel B, said she would accept Bitcoin from fans who would buy her songs. “I love how new technology makes our lives easier, and to me that’s exciting. Bitcoin unites my fans around the world using one currency. They can just pay using bitcoins!”, the singer declared.

In 2014, Akon declared that Bitcoin “is going to change the world from a money transactional standpoint not just for Africa, but for everywhere”. Best known for his music, the Senegalese singer has focused on helping African communities. “I think that Blockchain and crypto could be the savior for Africa in many ways because it brings the power back to the people”, Akon said recently.

Altcoin fans

Katy Perry has over 107 million fans on Twitter, 70 million on Instagram and 68 million on Facebook. She thus helped bring cryptocurrency to the attention of her fans. In January, the star posted a photo of her nails on Instagram, depicting cryptocurrency like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Monero, Stellar and Litecoin.

Ripple organized a VIP event called “XRP Community Night” at Blockchain Week NYC in May. Rapper Snoop Dogg was the special guest to this exclusive event. His interest for the crypto market was obvious since 2013. At that time he tweeted that “my next record available in bitcoin n delivered in a drone”.

American actor Ashton Kutcher is co-founder of Sound Ventures, which invests in Ripple. The famous actor joined Ripple this spring while making a $4 million donation in XRP to support the Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund. In 2014, one year before the launch of Ethereum, Kutcher posted a link leading to the official Ethereum site on his Twitter account.
