The Website Reddit Doesn’t Accept Bitcoin Payments Anymore

The website Reddit, where many people share discussions and opinions, doesn’t allow anymore the payment option with Bitcoin. This is a report according to Bitcoin.com.

This change is very important for the market because on Reddit exists a community related to cryptocurrencies and also a lot of discussions held by people.

Reddit exists from 2005 and until June 2015, it reached the number of 36 million members. To be a member of Reddit is free, but you can also purchase Reddit Gold to have different features on the platform. With these features, a membership can leave more comments, can access to a secret subreddit. Reddit Gold can be used as a gift and it costs 4 USD a month, or 30 USD a year.

Reddit began accepting Bitcoin in February 2013. At the time, staff engineer Brian Simpson said: “We’ve gotten some requests for additional payment methods so hopefully this brings us closer to reaching everyone who wants to buy gold.”

The website Reddit has also closed a discussion group focused on anonymous trading venues.

The Bitcoin option doesn’t exist anymore on the payment box. Reddit user emoney04 explained: “The upcoming change, combined with some bugs around the Bitcoin payment option that were affecting purchases for certain users, led us to remove Bitcoin as a payment option. We’re going to take a look at demand and watch the progression before making a decision on whether to re-enable.”

He later added that the Bitcoin option might not necessarily be brought back.

Another change made by the website is the closing of a subreddit called r/Darknetmarkets. This hosts discussions about places where it is possible to trade anonymously. Subreddits are how discussions organize on the platform.

The forum was flagged as violating Reddit’s policy against promoting transactions involving prohibited goods or services. These includes, but are not limited to firearms/explosives, drugs, sexual services, stolen goods, and falsified official documents or currency.
